What is a Scholastic Book Winner?

One of the best gifts one can give a child is the love of reading. Reading is an important skill that children need to develop. Not only is it necessary for being successful in school, but in adult life as well.
In addition to sending Take-Home Books daily, implementing a Reading Reward program, and promoting books through read-alouds, I have developed another way to generate enthusiasm about books. Each month, I will select 2-3 students from the Scholastic book bucket. When your child is chosen, he/she may pick one book from the monthly order ($3.00 or less) and I will buy it for him/her. I will announce the winners at the beginning of each month. This method reinforces the following aspects of reading:

- Books help children develop vital language skills - Opens new worlds and enriches children's lives - Enhances children's social skills - Improves hand-eye coordination - Stories can free imaginations and open exciting new worlds of fantasy or reality
